During our most recent Legislative Session, we fought hard to oppose legislation to require data privacy protection and customer inquiries/opt out procedures. However, we expect this legislation to return in January. The goal is that it won’t go after dealers but unfortunately our industry is a mass aggregator of consumer personal data. This puts us squarely in the bull’s eye of this legislation.

Senator Jennifer Bradley met with FADA last week and is open to our concerns and specific problems but we must find a way to go after the big tech companies whom we are forced to do business with and require them to follow some new rules of engagement. Every House and Senate member needs to hear from you now. Explain how you feel out of control in this data harvesting fiasco. Ask them to move slowly in passing a bill that could be impossible for you to comply with. Our thanks to Senator Bradley for keeping the door open as the bill comes back in January.
