Good News for Dealers – FTC Vehicle Shopping Rule Effective Date Delayed
In response to a petition for judicial review jointly filed by NADA and the Texas Automobile Dealers Association, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has issued an Order delaying the effective date of the Vehicle Shopping Rule pending judicial review.
What does this mean? While this action doesn’t annul or impact the rule’s requirements, it does mean that the previously stated effective date of July 30, 2024, is no longer applicable for the Vehicle Shopping Rule.
NADA is actively supporting federal legislation to prevent the rule’s implementation and enforcement. This includes backing a provision in a House appropriations bill denying funding for enforcing the rule and supporting the “FTC REDO Act” (S. 3014), which mandates basic regulatory safeguards if the FTC decides to redo the rule.
