Read Monday June 16th’s Automotive News and the picture unfolds quickly. Battles have been waging in several states for two years and it now appears that key states in the mix are allowing Tesla to operate with some or no restrictions, because they have a hybrid operation – no franchised dealers! There have been compromises allowing Tesla to operate in VA, Ohio and NY and now NJ and PA.
Dealers in most states do not fear Tesla outright, they fear other new competitors modeling the Tesla distribution system. But the greatest fear seems to be that the franchised automakers will somehow change their stripes and try a dealer-less distribution model.
